DA in uThukela wants Finance MEC to probe R10M tender scandal

October 03, 2025

THE Democratic Alliance (DA) in uThukela District Municipality has formally appealed to KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Finance, Hon. Francois Rodgers, highlighting the IFP-led administration’s alarming inaction on a forensic report exposing over R10 million in irregular security tender expenditure.

The MEC’s office has confirmed receipt of the request for intervention, signalling growing scrutiny on governance lapses under IFP control in uThukela.

A forensic investigation by SD Moloi and Associates, completed in 2023, allegedly uncovered procurement irregularities in bodyguard contracts, implicating senior officials including IFP Executive Mayor Inkosi Ntandoyenkosi Shabalala and the Speaker.
