Baby Nikita’s parents abandon bail application

THE parents of the 4-year-old girl, who was severely abused and died of her injuries, told the Protea Magistrate’s Court yesterday that they were abandoning their application for bail.
The child's father is facing five charges, including rape, compelled rape, assault with GBH, murder, child abuse, and defeating the ends of justice, while the mother is facing charges related to murder and failing to report the abuse of a minor. The parents have not been named.
The little girl, Nikita, was admitted to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital more than two weeks ago, after her screams for help sent shockwaves across the Eldorado Park community, resulting in the arrest of her parents. She later died from her injuries.
