Tributes pour in for 'cherished' footballer

TRIBUTES have been paid to a local football hero after his sudden death.

Curtis Coppen, 30, was part of the North Shields FC squad that lifted the FA Vase in 2015. He went on to captain Ashington AFC before returning to Shields. The club confirmed the defender had passed away on Sunday and paid tribute.
It said: “North Shields Football Club sadly announce with heavy hearts and great sadness the passing of Curtis Coppen. A cherished footballer with the club and supporters. He will be deeply missed by his teammates, supporters, friends, and most importantly his family.
