The Journal
|January 03, 2026
A NEW Lidl supermarket has been given the green light for construction.
-
The store will be built on the former site of the Go North East depot in Chester-le-Street, County Durham, following approval of planning permission.
Lidl has stated that this multi-million pound venture could generate up to 40 job opportunities, offering a significant economic uplift and enhancing retail variety for local residents.
The new store will be built opposite Aldi, off Picktree Lane; however, Tesco warned it would negatively impact town centre trade.
