Residents given more time to air views on tower
The Journal

LOCALS are being given extra time to have their say on a controversial £40m development at the mouth of the Ouseburn in Newcastle.
Debate has raged for years about the future of the Malmo and Spillers Quay sites, at the far eastern end of Newcastle's Quayside.
Designs for an 18-storey tower on the Malmo plot sparked a major backlash in 2021 and were branded an "eyesore" by opponents.
It emerged last week that a new set of building plans for the vacant land have been submitted to Newcastle City Council, which have been altered slightly since a smaller, 10-floor apartment block for Malmo Quay was put forward in August 2022.
Concern had been aired that the scheme had resurfaced "with no warning" and that, following a deluge of objections to the original plans, few residents seemed to be aware of the latest updates.
