POLICE STATION'S FUTURE UNCERTAIN

The future of a Tyneside police station remains uncertain after Northumbria Police announced a major overhaul of its buildings.

The force revealed last week that it had submitted a series of planning applications, which it described as a “key step" in its “long-term estate efficiency and improvement programme”.
As part of the plans the force said it was looking at “alternative options” for Gateshead Police Station, which has stood in the town centre since the 1970s. The force would not confirm whether these options included closing the station or not.
