Plans for derelict tram sheds

EFFORTS to redevelop disused tram sheds in Newcastle’s West End are being revived, almost a decade after plans to transform it into a hotel were first approved.

New proposals have been lodged which would see the derelict sheds in Westgate Road turned into an aparthotel.

The building dates back to 1903 and was once the Wingrove depot of the Newcastle Corporation Tramways, which once ran more than 300 trams across the city, while part of it has more recently been used as a car wash and the Tyre Supermarket.
