Pit village plans new banner after lottery grant

A PIT village which has been “unrepresented” at the annual Durham Miners’ Gala after the community's banner fell into disrepair has been given a £14,742 grant to replace it.

Campaigners in Langley Park said the funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund would make a massive difference.
Plans are now afoot to design a new banner in the hope of organising a presence at next year’s Miner’s Gala.
Local campaigners came together in 2024 to form the Langley Park Miners’ Banner Group - and hope this means they will be able to “proudly line up behind it” in 2026.
