Person dies after rescue from the sea

A PERSON has died after getting into difficulty in the water along North Tyneside’s coast. Emergency services were called to reports of two people caught in a rip current at Tynemouth Longsands shortly after 6pm on Monday, May 19.

Blyth Coastguard Rescue Team, Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade, Cullercoats RNLI lifeboat, North East Ambulance Service, an air ambulance and Northumbria Police were called to the scene and two patients were rescued from the water and transported to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI).
