Nissan ‘eyeing £1bn loan’ as carmaker tries to turn around its fortunes

CAR maker Nissan is reportedly eyeing a £1bn loan guaranteed by the Government as it aims to turn around major financial problems.
The firm, which employs around 6,000 people at its Sunderland plant with thousands more in its supply chains, has been facing major challenges at a global level as it battles to raise billions for its survival.
Now financial news website Bloomberg has reported that a £1bn loan guaranteed by UK Export Finance is a part of the package the Japanese firm is pulling together, along with the potential sale of stakes it holds in other companies.
It comes as Nissan reported a £3.4bn net loss for its 2024 financial year and said it expects operating losses of up to £2.3bn in the year up to March 2026.
