New owner for Grade II-listed building in city

ONE of Newcastle city centre's best known buildings has been sold to a local property group in a multimillion-pound deal.

104-108 Grey Street - the former Mawsons department store and Waterstones bookshop which now houses fashion firm END - has been sold to Durham's Ward Group Investments. The deal also includes 1 Hood Street, which has law firm Clarke Mairs LLP and outdoor clothing company Rohan as tenants.

The Grey Street building was built in 1904 for Mawson, Swan and Morgan - stationers, booksellers and art dealers - and retains its original Edwardian shop front. It later housed Waterstones book shop before being used by fashion chain H&M and then Byron Burger. North East fashion chain END moved there from Grainger Street in 2021.
