Name of new footbridge revealed

THE name of Sunderland’s newest bridge will pay tribute to the city’s shipbuilding history. The 260-metre footbridge, which connects the former Vaux Brewery site and Sheepfolds, will be known as the Keel Crossing.

The site of the new footbridge straddles one of the world’s most productive shipbuilding hubs during the 18th and 19th century, and extends the existing Keel Line which pays tribute to those vessels built on the Wear.
