Metro train driver stars in TV loco documentary

A NEXUS driver who also teaches people to drive the Metro trains has starred in a BBC documentary due to his other role as a volunteer at Tanfield Railway in Gateshead.

Tom Hartley, 32, appeared on the TV show titled 'Our Lives - The World's Oldest Railway', sharing his lifelong passion.
Tom is a member of a team who give up much of their spare time to keep Tanfield Railway running, with the popular visitor attraction celebrating its 300th anniversary.
The TV show offered a behind the scenes look at the commitment needed to preserve the locomotives.
Tanfield is such a big part of Tom's life, as he has been volunteering there since he was a child. and he even got married there.
