Man charged after two die in crash

A man has been charged following the deaths of a father and son in a collision in South Shields.

Shortly after 8.55pm on Saturday, police received a report of a one-vehicle collision on John Reid Road, near to the New Mill Inn.

It was reported that a white Skoda Octavia car was travelling on the road when it came off the carriageway. Peter Webb, 40, and his 12-year-old son, Ben Webb, who were both from South Shields, died at the scene.
