Look beyond the labels

THE psychology of human beings is both fascinating and extremely frustrating; take Angus Long's latest column regarding our so-called ‘woke culture’ (The Journal, Thursday).

He claims that Christmas card producers have recently removed religious themes “for fear of offending non-Christians’, and this is now so extreme that children think “Christmas is about celebrating the arrival of Santa Claus rather than the birth of Jesus.”

But wasn’t it always so? As a child at junior school in the 1960s, I sent and received many cards of snow scenes, Santas, decorated trees, presents, and sleighs, with a few churches and wise men thrown in.
