Howe explains his Barca selections

Howe has lifted the lid on his selection process for the last 16 clash against Barcelona at St James' Park amid late drama and a change of plans that threatened to derail their bid for a quarterfinal spot.The Newcastle United head coach explained that Anthony Gordon did not start due to an illness and actually failed to turn up for a morning training session at Benton. The forward came on midway through the second half against the La Liga leaders.

Howe also said it was a hard decision not to pick either Nick Woltemade or Yoane Wissa but that Will Osula earned his chance to start.
