Family asleep yards from 'arson attack' on vehicle

A SUNDERLAND charity van has been destroyed in a suspected “arson attack” which also caused damage to a property that could have proved life-threatening.

Firefighters were called to East Moor Road in Pallion in the early hours of Friday morning after reports of a fire involving a van belonging to Pallion Action Group.

Pictures and CCTV footage released by the charity showed the devastation caused by the blaze. The charity van was destroyed and a property on the street was also damaged extensively as a family reportedly slept inside.

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that crews were called to the scene shortly before 4am on Friday.
