Carrick ‘a good fit’ for shock return

MICHAEL Carrick could make a shock Middlesbrough return after ending his time at the club on good terms with chairman Steve Gibson.

That's the view of Carrick’s friend Don Hutchison, who believes the former Boro boss would be open to an incredible comeback. Boro are conducting a thorough search for their next manager.

Carrick was sacked by Gibson in the summer after failing to guide the club to the Championship playoffs. It brought an end to a two-and-a-half year stint at the Riverside in what was his first management job, after a caretaker spell at Manchester United.
