be third choice despite manager's dig at Howe

NICK Woltemade might have slipped to third-choice striker for Germany after being snubbed for their latest World Cup warm-up fixture.

Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann was quick to extol the virtues of Woltemade in a recent international break, even offering a thinly-veiled dig at Eddie Howe and Newcastle's tactics when it comes to the big striker, saying the tall attacker would perform better when used as a striker than in midfield.
However, Nagelsmann hasn't backed up those words by first only using Woltemade as a late substitute against Finland - and in a slightly withdrawn role, despite his claims about Newcastle's formation - before snubbing him completely for the 2-1 friendly win over USA on Saturday.
