Modi inaugurates Vizhinjam international seaport in Kerala

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on May 2, 2025, officially commissioned the Vizhinjam International Seaport, India's first deep-water transshipment port in Kerala.
It was completed at an estimated cost of INR88.67 billion.
The port is expected to handle a significant portion of India's container transshipment, reducing reliance on foreign ports like Colombo, Dubai, and Singapore. The first phase of the project has been completed, with full-scale operations expected to commence soon.
Modi arrived at the port area by helicopter from Thiruvananthapuram city at 10.15 a.m. and walked around the transshipment hub wearing a hard hat, taking stock of the facilities.
