Funding award set to deliver key timber transport boost

Scottish Forestry has awarded £45,000 to a forestry project at Barhill to help improve timber transport.

The funding boost is awarded to the partners involved in the Barhill Strategic Timber Transport Committee and will enable upgrades to the Carrick Burn bridge.

The bridge is an integral part of the Barhill Timber Haul Route which ensures timber wagons are kept off local fragile public roads, reducing impacts on communities.

By strengthening the bridge, it will secure the route’s future use for many years as around 250,000 tonnes of timber are due to be extracted from local forests.
