TRASH-FILLED HOARDER'S RESIDENCE IS TRANSFORMED

- By MILO BOYD Milo.Boyd@reachplc.com

What a difference three years makes...

A PENSIONER has invested £100,000 and three years into transforming what's been dubbed Britain's 'most disgusting home' into a gleaming family residence.

At 65, Sara Haigh took a leap of faith and purchased the trash-laden hoarder's residence in Plymouth impulsively, having had only a brief 15-minute inspection before it went under the hammer in 2021.

Enveloped in rampant ivy and brambles, the unpainted pebble-dash facade of the semi-detached property on Camperdown Street was starkly divergent from the orderly, vibrant dwellings in Stoke.

Yet, this unattractive outer shell paled in comparison to the interior calamities that lay obscured within.

Sara, who lives with her partner Paul Brown, aged 70, in Stonehouse, said: "As we waded through the overgrown plant life, it was clear an enormous amount of work and investment was needed. But once we got inside, the scale of the work needed was truly shocking."

Sara was greeted by a dwelling deluged in debris. Food takeout containers towered on kitchen surfaces; floors were littered with a multitude of plastic milk bottles and metal cans.
