CUSTODIAL SENTENCE ONLY OPTION, SAYS JUDGE
A PLYMOUTH Royal Marine who drove at speed into his partner, catapulting her through the air following an argument, has been sent to prison.
Thomas Higgins, 40, drove at speed into Tammy Higgins, now his wife, after a disagreement.
Higgins, of Lydcot Walk, Eggbuckland, was found guilty of grievous bodily harm by a jury at a trial held earlier this year. He had previously pleaded guilty to a second charge of dangerous driving, and appeared at Exeter Crown Court for sentencing.
This week, Higgins was sentenced to three years imprisonment, which the judge said was the minimum possible sentence he could offer in the circumstances. The court heard how the incident, which was captured on CCTV, showed Higgins involved in an argument with his partner next to the vehicle in Bond Street, Redruth, Cornwall.
