Capturing the heart, soul and the very essence of The Jam

FOR fans of a certain age, The Jam weren't simply about the songs, they were a way of life.
-
Dave Fletcher, front man of The Jam'd who are coming to Plymouth next week - was one such.
"I got into punk and new wave in the mid '70s," he enthuses, "then in 1977 I discovered The Jam and from then on they became a lifetime passion, I lived and breathed them.
"It's difficult to explain to people but we were part of the Mod youth movement and The Jam were the head of it. There was the music - the live show was a total experience of style, cool, tension, excitement and electricity. And when the band walked out on stage, as well as anticipation of the music, you couldn't wait to see what they were wearing or what their hairstyles were like." Add to that the scooter rallies and Carnaby Street.
"If I met Paul Weller I would love to ask him if he had any idea how big an influence he had on so many young people at the time," he says.
Dave has never met his idol but he tried his best, even going so far as to knock on the door of his house in Woking back in the day...
