Berne's appointment as CEO gives stability and expertise

WHEN Paul Berne was announced as Plymouth Argyle's new chief executive officer last Thursday there were some vocal critics of the appointment among the Green Army who pointed to the fact he did not have a background in the football industry.

While that is true, a look at his CV shows he will bring considerable leadership experience and business acumen to the CEO role, which he will officially start on January 1, as he oversees the running of the club on a day-to-day basis.

There is also the added factor that Cornwall-based Berne has been on Argyle's board of directors since 2019 so will already have an insight into how the club operates and its often talked about vision and values. That is a huge advantage compared to someone coming in from outside of the club.

Outgoing CEO Andrew Parkinson has left behind a legacy of a well-run, financially stable and forward-thinking football club. There are not many like that around the EFL.
