All she wanted was chips and a sausage...
The Herald
|June 11, 2025
POOR old Mrs Edwards. All she wanted was some chips and a fry-up on her holiday, but as soon as she complained to her local newspaper about the fact that a Greek hotel mainly served Greek food, an almighty pile-on began.
-
The gran from Westerhope in Newcastle told The Chronicle that her holiday was 'horrendous' from the minute she, her two cousins, second cousin and daughter arrived.
The reasoning for her experience, she said, was the food, as her chosen resort, the Lido Corfu Sun Hotel, did not serve enough English grub.
Chips were only served on one evening, she said. One! There was not even hot bacon or sausage for breakfast.
Instead guests were expected to eat culinary horrors including mozzarella and sliced tomatoes, hard boiled eggs, or 'something in sauce.' Likely not baked beans.
While her outburst might usually have elicited some rolling of eyes and frustrated sighs from those who travel abroad to taste something other than what they might sample at home, the story went viral and was widely discussed as a marker of just how awful some British tourists can be while they are overseas.
