Age UK urged not to sell residential home

MORE than 2,000 individuals have signed a petition urging Age UK not to sell Woodcot, a landmark residential home in Salcombe.

The property, which was donated to the charity by a previous owner, could potentially be sold to property investors.

Concerned relatives have criticised the national charity, labelling it a 'betrayal' of its mission.

Salcombe Town Council has now penned a letter to Age UK, imploring them to rethink their plans to consider selling the property.

"If Age UK does not wish to use Woodcot as a residential home for older people, it should be willing to transfer Woodcot to another charity or other charities who are."

The council has circulated its letter amongst the Charity Commission, elected officials, the South Hams Society and churches due to the high level of public concern.
