A38 Parkway to be reduced to 60mph

A LARGE stretch of the A38 through Plymouth is set to be reduced to 60mph after a safety review revealed the road's collision rate is double the national average.

The 70mph speed limit on the A38 - particularly the section which includes Plymouth, from the Deep Lane junction to the Tamar Bridge - has long been debated, not least due to the number of serious and fatal traffic collisions which have taken place.

In June 2018, then MP for South East Cornwall Sheryll Murray said the road was “dangerous” adding that “hardly a week goes by when there is not an accident, often with loss of life” Now National Highways has decided action needs to be taken along part of the A38 and have said the new limits are expected to be in place by “this winter”
