£30m investment in city's clean technology

MORE than 50 high-skilled jobs are set to be created after a fast-growing tech company announced plans to open a £30m facility in Plymouth.

Devon-based clean technology group Altilium aims to open an electric vehicle battery recycling plant in Langage. The company has already proved to be a fast growing success, attracting £14m in inward investment to the region, with major international backers including Chile's SQMi, Japanese trading group Marubeni and Mizuho Bank.

Founded in 2020, Altilium already has teams working across three locations in Plymouth and Tavis-tock. The company has more than 50 employees, including over 20 scientists and engineers, and is engaging with schools and universities to support talented students with work experience opportunities and internships.

Altilium's ACT 1 R&D technology centre opened in Tavis-tock 2022, with support from Innovate UK, the Automotive Transformation Fund and Devon County Council's Green Innovation Fund.
