The sheer skirt: how to do 'naked dressing' the easy way

Fashion designers love nothing more than an extreme trend - one that is difficult to imagine transferring to most people's everyday lives.

Take so-called naked dressing, where stars, such as Dakota Johnson and Meg Ryan, wear transparent and sometimes barely there gowns.

This party season, however, there appears to be a compromise that is friendly to real people leading real lives. Enter the sheer skirt.

Sheer skirts have appeared on the catwalk, at brands such as Simone Rocha and Chanel - and they have been worn by celebrities. This week, the actor Jacqueline Bisset wore one to the Torino film festival, while Victoria Beckham had one on at Holly Ramsay's hen party this summer.

But they are now on the high street - including at Cos and Marks & Spencer. These designs often come with a strategically placed opaque panel to preserve the wearer's modesty - a fact that might mean a more respectable version of naked dressing will be spotted this party season.
