The new front row? Fashion meets its match as stars light up royal box

But this week there has been another match taking place off the grass.

It was catwalk v Centre Court as clashing schedules meant haute couture fashion week in Paris went head-to-head with the championships in SW19.

Like all matches, there can only be one winner and, surprisingly, it appears the south-west London suburb rather than the French fashion capital has claimed victory.

While Paris has not been short of Hollywood stars, Wimbledon has welcomed an eclectic starry mix including the pop star Olivia Rodrigo, Arsenal's Bukayo Saka and the actors Mark Rylance, Jodie Foster, Cate Blanchett and Sienna Miller.

And yesterday Anna Wintour hotfooted it from couture to catch Carlos Alcaraz v Taylor Fritz. Accompanying her in the royal box was the American fashion designer Tom Ford, who sold his eponymous brand for £2.2bn in 2022. Leonardo DiCaprio and Rami Malek were also there to watch Alcaraz.

Yasmin Eady, co-founder of Raven, a London-based communications agency, described gaining access to the tournament as "more desirable than ever".
