Exports by Ireland's pharmaceutical industry to the US rocketed in the first four months of the year as multinationals such as Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson rushed to beat Donald Trump's threatened tariffs.

Exports of medical and pharmaceutical products represented more than 60% of all exports from the country. The push to get medicines across the Atlantic peaked in March, data published by the government agency the Central Statistics Office showed yesterday.
