Mitchell relief at Packer's one-match ban

The Guardian

|

August 08, 2025

England women's rugby head coach John Mitchell had mixed news to report before tomorrow's final warm-up game away to France before the World Cup gets under way, with clarification that Marlie Packer's ban for her red card last weekend would be for just one game, while reporting that he may be without three key players for the opening match against the USA on 22 August.

- Tony Paley

Mitchell expected a two-week suspension for Packer after her dismissal during the 97-7 romp over Spain and said: "Yeah, good outcome wasn't it? It beat my idea of two weeks, so yeah, pretty good. We're very happy for Marlie."
