The last survivor of the team that conquered Mount Everest died yesterday at the age of 92. Kanchha Sherpa was among the 35 members of the British
-
expedition that helped Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay scale the 8,849-metre (29,032ft) peak in May 1953. Tenzing, his fellow Sherpa, died in 1986 and Hillary, a New Zealander who was knighted after the climb, died in 2008.
