French far-right National Rally offices raided in funding investigation
The Guardian
|July 10, 2025
Police raided the headquarters of France’s far-right National Rally (RN) yesterday as part of a new inquiry into alleged illegal campaign financing dismissed by Jordan Bardella, RN’s leader, as “a harassment campaign”.
The raid came a day after EU financial prosecutors said they had begun a separate inquiry into the use of €4.3m (£3.7m) by the former European parliament group Identity and Democracy (ID), which included RN.
RN’s figurehead, Marine Le Pen, was convicted in March of embezzling EU funds and barred from running for office for five years, in effect scuppering her hopes of running in 2027 presidential elections.
