Dozens killed in fresh clashes along border of Afghanistan and Pakistan

Dozens of soldiers and civilians have been killed in fresh clashes on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.
Islamabad also carried out airstrikes on the Afghan capital, Kabul, before the two sides declared a 48-hour ceasefire last night.
Pakistan’s military said the Afghan Taliban had carried out “unprovoked fire” on border posts in the Kurram district and at the crossing between the Chaman and Spin Boldak districts on Tuesday. It said it had retaliated with mortar fire and drone strikes, killing 20 Taliban fighters.
Security sources confirmed that Pakistan’s air force also hit Taliban forces in Kandahar province.
The “friendship gate” at the Chaman-Spin Boldak crossing sustained significant damage and remained closed yesterday.
