World Refugee Day, observed annually on June 20th, is celebrated to recognize and honour the strength and resilience of refugees worldwide.
It also serves as a reminder to the world of the plight of those forced to flee their homes due to conflict, persecution, or natural disasters. The Day highlights the resilience and contributions of refugees, while also emphasizing the need for international cooperation to address the challenges they face. According to the United Nations 1951 Refugee Convention, a refugee is someone who has fled their home and country because of a deep fear of persecution because of his or her ethnicity, religion, nationality, membership in a specific social group, or political opinion. Many refugees have gone into exile to avoid natural or man-made disasters.
