Winners of charity awards celebrate

Charities and their supporters from around the North East came together at The Fed in Gateshead for the awards, which are organised by The Journal and The Gazette in partnership with RBC Brewin Dolphin.

The big prize of the night - North East Charity of the Year - went to The Junction Foundation, a Teesside community support organisation which has recently teamed up with internet giant Amazon to open a 'multi-bank' offering a range of items to people in need.

Beth Major, chief executive of The Junction Foundation, said: “It’s overwhelming when I look at the people we were in the same category with.

“We work in partnership with Feeding Families, for example, to distribute food boxes to families across the Tees Valley. We highly respect their work.
