Suspected WWII devices found near golf course
The Gazette
|April 09, 2026
SUSPECTED WWII devices were found hidden beneath a sand dune on a Hartlepool beach, sparking a large 999 operation.
The bottle-shaped objects, orange and yellow in colour, can clearly be seen half buried in sand and among rushes on Crimdon beach very close to Hartlepool Golf Course.
Emergency crews were alerted to the historic find on Tuesday - and surprised golfers watched on as Cleveland Police, HM Coastguard and bomb disposal experts descended - with some even using golf buggies to transport them to the site.
Police confirmed a member of the public sustained what are thought to be minor burns and received medical treatment.
