Shock and sadness as four bodies found in just three days

A seaside community has been left in shock following the deaths of four people in just three days.

The picturesque North Yorkshire towns have been left reeling by the tragedies along the rugged coastline. However, North Yorkshire Police have confirmed that the deaths are not connected.

On Wednesday, two bodies were airlifted from beneath cliffs at Whitby Abbey. The pair were later confirmed to be a man and a woman.

A day later, the body of a woman in her 60s was found, also at the bottom of the cliffs, below Whitby Abbey. Police stated that the incident is believed to "have involved a fall from the cliff" and the sudden death is not believed to be suspicious.

Then on Saturday, the body of a woman, said to be in her 50s, was found a little further along the coast at Sandsend by the main car park. Her injuries are consistent with her falling from the top of the cliff edge, police say.

The deaths have left people in a state of shock in the close-knit community. "It's not rare but this amount in a short space of time is so sad," one person at SandSide Cafe in Sandsend said.

They continued: "More needs to be done. I wasn't at work yesterday but had heard about it on the radio."
