Probe into arson attack at derelict 'dangerous' hotel

AN investigation will be held following an arson attack at a 'dangerous' Teesside hotel which has been derelict for many years.

Six fire engines, alongside police were on the scene in Thornaby as flames and smoke billowed out of The Golden Eagle hotel on Sunday evening. Fire officers have confirmed the blaze was started deliberately.

The fire follows a warning from Cleveland Police earlier this month for people not to enter the building as they were putting themselves in danger due to asbestos in the premises. Emergency crews were called to The Golden Eagle at around 5.15pm and the area was sealed off while firefighters tackled the blaze.
