Momentous year even without possible treble

CHARLES Wright insists that 2025 has been a momentous year for Redcar - despite the dream of a possible treble being blown away by defending champions Poole and the remnants of Storm Amy.

The Pirates plundered a fifth successive Grand Final appearance - four of which have proved successful - under the guidance of former Yarm-based World Champion Gary Havelock, who regularly manages the Dorset side whenever they are up north.

The Agilia Bears, already six points adrift from the Wimborne Road leg, never fully recovered from suffering two debatable exclusions in the opening four races which helped Poole double their overall advantage.

Although Redcar responded to level matters on the night by heat six, they immediately fell behind again and when Lewis Kerr and Zach Cook claimed the visitors’ third 5-1 of the night, over Wright and Jake Mulford, in heat ten, Poole’s overall advantage was up to 14 points and another final against Glasgow was virtually sealed.
