'Full of rage and hell' son left dad fearing for life

A FATHER said he feared his own son would kill him during an 'ugly' attack in the aftermath of another brutal assault where he repeatedly beat his victim with a mallet.

Andrew Vickers has been handed an extended prison term of 10 years and three months following the attacks. The man struck with the mallet was left with "horrifying" injuries.

Teesside Crown Court heard 29-year-old Vickers was, in part, motivated by revenge. His victim was at his van when the defendant approached and began attacking him with a mallet - dealing “eight to 10 forceful blows” to his head and upper body.

Paul Newcombe, prosecuting, said there was an element of revenge to the incident as the victim is alleged to have accused him of stealing the complainant’s mother's car. A witness intervened and led the victim to safety. The man suffered a skull fracture, facial bruising, a haematoma of the brain, an open head wound and the court heard he required at least two surgeries. He did not provide a victim impact statement.
