Councillor pledges ‘no housing’ for vacant site

Redcar Bowl was demolished in 2014

A COUNCIL leader says the site of the former Coatham Bowl will not be sold for housing “under my watch".

Cllr Alec Brown commented on social media after it was revealed Redcar and Cleveland Council had declined to further extend a 125-year lease option offered to a local consortium which hoped the land could be developed for a new arena.

Coatham Arena Limited (CAL) conceded it had been unable to secure private investment in the proposed scheme and said it was “deeply disappointed the transform-ative project [would] not go ahead’:
