Cold snap arrives

HEAVY snowfall has been causing havoc across parts of Teesside and North Yorkshire.

Freezing temperatures will continue until the weekend as the region is bombarded with snow and ice.

Part of the borough of Redcar and Cleveland and North Yorkshire were subject to a rare amber alert for snow and ice throughout yesterday.

The rest of the region faced bitterly cold temperatures, snow, sleet and ice, with yellow weather warnings in place until Parts of the A171 were impassable due to heavy snow, with, as some of these images show, the A169 treacherous for drivers.

North Yorkshire Police urged motorists to stay off the road.
