Virginia Farms Inc. is investing P2.8 billion in a technologically advanced breeding farm in Cebu, betting that rising demand for pork and the Philippines’ push for food security will create opportunities for local producers to displace imports and expand domestic supply.

Virginia Farms invests P2.8B in high-tech breeding facility

The 30-hectare facility in Aloguinsan is expected to strengthen Cebu’s position as one of the country’s largest pork-producing centers, supplying breeder stocks that could help lift production in a province already accounting for more than half of local pork consumption.

Set to begin loading breeder stocks in July, this third farm of Virginia in Cebu represents one of the largest agricultural investments in Central Visayas in recent years.

The facility anchors Virginia Farms’ broader effort to modernize pork production in the Philippines, leveraging superior genetics, stringent biosecurity protocols and precision breeding technologies to increase herd productivity and help narrow the country’s reliance on imported pork.

“This is one of our biggest capital investments to date,” Virginia Farms President Rolando Tambago said during the facility’s inauguration held on June 18, 2026.

“Food security is something you cannot outsource. It has to be produced locally,” he added.

The breeding farm will serve as the company’s primary source of high-quality breeder pigs, replacing older facilities that will be converted into commercial sow operations.

Designed with three layers of perimeter protection, controlled-access systems and strict environmental safeguards, the site is intended to become one of the most biosecure swine facilities in the country.
