SK asked to promote HIV awareness

A proposed resolution in the Cebu Provincial Board is calling for stronger youth involvement in addressing the rising cases of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), particularly among young people.

Authored by Provincial Board Member Stanley Caminero, Proposed Resolution No. 062, Series of 2026 urges the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation to take an active role in promoting HIV awareness, screening, and testing across the province.
Central Visayas, including Cebu, continues to face a growing HIV challenge, ranking among the regions with the highest number of new infections in the country. Based on the latest HIV & AIDS Surveillance of the Philippines report, the region recorded 349 new HIV cases in the third quarter of 2025, placing it fourth nationwide.
Since 1984, Central Visayas has accumulated 11,695 diagnosed HIV cases, highlighting its longstanding struggle with the disease. The majority of new infections are concentrated among the youth and young adults, with individuals aged 25-34 accounting for 42%, and those aged 15-24 comprising 30%.
