Romualdez lauds rollout of unified PWD ID system

Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez welcomed the government's pilot rollout of a unified identification system for persons with disabilities (PWDs), saying it will curb the fraudulent use of PWD IDs and ensure rightful beneficiaries receive their privileges.

"This is a strong response to the longstanding abuse of fraudulent PWD IDs that hurt businesses and cast doubt on legitimate beneficiaries," Romualdez said, describing the initiative as "a milestone in dignity, fairness, and service" for one of society's most vulnerable sectors.

"This unified ID will make life easier for our PWDs by ensuring that services and benefits reach them without delay, confusion, or unfair treatment," he added, while commending the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) under Secretary Rex Gatchalian.

The House leader also cited the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) for spearheading the program.
