MCIA expects boost as Phl eases visa rules for Chinese

Mactan-Cebu International Airport is positioning itself as a key gateway to the central and southern Philippines as congestion strains Manila’s main hub, a strategy that could accelerate after the government eased travel rules for Chinese visitors.
The Philippine government said Chinese nationals will be allowed visa-free entry for up to 14 days through two airports, including Cebu’s main gateway, in a bid to revive tourism and business travel. The policy is designed to lift international arrivals and channel more visitors through regional hubs.
MCIA, the busiest airport outside the capital, is expanding its role as a transfer center linking foreign arrivals to domestic destinations across the Visayas and Mindanao.
Airport operator Aboitiz InfraCapital is rolling out connection programs aimed at cutting transfer times and integrating air and sea travel as it seeks to disperse tourist traffic beyond traditional gateways.
