Mayor eyes partnering with council to livestream city projects bidding

Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival Sr. is open to coordinating with the Cebu City Council to study the possibility of livestreaming the bidding process for city projects, saying that there's no problem in adopting a system previously approved by the Council itself, of which he was once a member.

While this practice is already being implemented in the Cebu Provincial Capitol, Archival said he is open to doing the same for the city's upcoming projects. “Wala gyud ko’y problema ana,” he said.

Archival recalled that during the 16th Sangguniang Panlungsod (City Council), where he served as its minority floor leader before becoming mayor, an ordinance supporting the livestreaming of the bidding process was approved. However, it faced questions regarding its legality and was eventually vetoed by then-mayor Michael Rama.

He added that if Cebu province is already practicing livestreaming, then Cebu City can use it as a template.

It has bee previously reported that it is now only a matter of adapting this practice in the Cebu City government, as national law already mandates the livestreaming of the bidding process for procurements, according to Councilor Mikel Rama, chair of the committee on laws.
